Passo Antico, Cantina Bortolato Emanuela, Sardinia, Italy - 70cl
A unique wine created in a partial Appassimento style blend of 3 Sardinian grapes: Cannonau, Carignano & Bovale Sardo where the grapes from very ancient 100 year old vines are air dried to intensify flavour. Concentrated red berry fruit flavours on the mid palate with Mediterranean notes of Mirto Berries. Velvety smooth and round on the palate with excellent structure and a long finish. It normally takes twice the amount of grapes to make an Appassimento style wine, so they are normally much more expensive than this, but here there is only a partial Appassimento giving all the flavour benefits for half the price and only 4 grams per litre of residual sugar. Very moreish and a double Gold Medal Winner!
